Moose
Our newest baby "Moose" was born at 9:30 AM, Saturday 2/26/2011. The weather was freezing fog and everything was covered in a thin sheet of ice, so he got to spend his first day and night in the house! This morning I moved him back outside with his mother. I will get better pics later, still very foggy and damp this morning.

Lucy's babies
Babies are happening here on Poverty Knob. Lucy decided to kid on Sat. evening 2/12/2011. She had a set of triplets with no trouble. The problem was, I wasn't here! I was calling a benefit auction for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
Jamie handled the situation with ease. She was checking on Lucy every 30 minutes and still missed the birthing.
Goats can be sneaky!
Luckily the weather was warm and in the end everything turned out fine.

Poverty Knob Snow Ice Cream!
As far as I am concerned there are only 2 good things about snow.
1. It brings moisture. (We need the moisture)
2. It makes great Ice Cream.
Poverty Knob Snow Ice Cream
3/4 Cup Sugar
1 Egg
1 Cup Fresh Goat Milk (You can use store bought milk, but it just isn't as good)
1 Tablespoon Vanilla extract
a pinch of salt
Fresh "Clean" Snow
Mix together all ingredients except the snow. Once mixed start mixing in snow until you get the consistency you want.

Random Animal pics.
People are always asking me for pics of our animals and place so I decided to post some random pics here.
Some of the Draft Horses & Donkeys.
The big water tank in the foreground is going to be a raised bed planter, but I have to get it out of the horse pen first!
Yes that is a goat walking the ridge of the roof! She was entertaining, but impossible to keep in a pen!
Brownie & Spook cutting hay with a #9 IH mower
My view from the mower seat.
This is Pup. She is ranch security in training.

Poverty Knob Cornbread
I am a big Pinto Bean and Cornbread fan! I found a new corn bread recipe that I had to try. This recipe makes a moist, almost cake-like, cornbread. Next time I think that I will add some shredded cheese to it!!!!!
1 (8 oz) box Jiffy Cornbread mix
2 eggs
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup mayonnaise
Preheat oven to 350. Stir all ingredients together and place in an 8 x 8 baking dish. Bake at 350 for 30 - 35 minutes.

January "Blagh"
Every year about this time I ask myself "Why do we live here, instead of somewhere further SOUTH?"
You would think that after a lifetime of busting ice, cursing snow, hauling hay, caring for livestock ( Goats, Horses, Cattle, Pigs etc. ) and fighting frost bite, I would have settled down in someplace with warm winters.
Didn't happen.
January is my blagh month. We only have one auction (household consignment) and it is cold outside.
I have been playing with some new soap scents and new recipes so I have stayed busy. We are testing a Salt Soap this month and trying to decide if we are going to add it to our line or not. Right now the jury is undecided. Some testers like it, some say it is OK, some are using it for a drawer freshener. (Attn: Drawer freshener crowd. I need you to use the soap and give me feedback. Please.)
I am also working on a new shaving soap recipe. I have been using our Goat Milk & Honey or our Beer soap to shave with but I wanted to make a better shaving soap. I will keep you posted on my progress.
